La Scarzuola
15km far from the exit Fabro of the highway A1, direction Montegabbione, Scarzuola is one of the most beautiful places near Orvieto. In 1218 S. Francesco of Assisi lived in this area and he founded a convent planting a rose and a laurel. The Scarzuola today is a wonderful place, transformed by architect Tommaso Buzzi, that bought the building to build the “ideal city”. Buzzi recovered the convent and later the garden, transforming friars’s garden in a fantastic and green garden, between rare flowers, statues and hedges. Finished the recovery of the sacred city, Buzzi built his profane city, called “Buzziana”. La Scarzuola presents complex forms: small and big stairs, statues, monsters.
