Historical Palaces
Orvieto boasts of being home to many historical palaces. Among these we find: Palazzo del Gusto, a center of culture and food and wine training hosted by the Province of Terni inside the Convent of St.Giovanni in the medieval quarter of Orvieto. The building was now included in the broader marketing project territorial dell'Orvietano: a support for promotional activities and events. The building is also location to training projects as well as a "showcase" for products and producers of Orvieto. The famous event "Orvieto con Gusto", at the beginning of Autumn renewed each year under the flags of Slow Food cultural fame of the city; Palazzo dei Sette, public building, conceived at the end of the thirteenth century depicts the seven faces the power of the age, the Captains of the People, the Bishops and the Seven Gentlemen, consuls representatives of the Arts; Palazzo Comunale with its gothic arches supporting the roof dwelling in one of the main square, Piazza della Repubblica; Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, majestic thirteenth century building which stands at the center of Orvieto, was built in the thirteenth century. From it, in time of war, went out the armed defense of the city. Finally, Teatro Mancinelli, which leads the name of Luigi Mancinelli, is one of the most interesting Italian theaters, known for its beauty, but also for exceptional sound quality . In 1984 it was closed and subjected to lengthy renovation and restoration for almost 10 years.
